Pro team members Steve Bewes and Mark Leathwood have been out braving the bitterly cold weather in the last few days. Both were rewarded for their bravery with fine specimens of the Pike kind!

Mark spent a three day stint at a midlands Stillwater and banked several fish to 18.10 on a mixture of fly and float trolled deadbaits. Mark is pictured with one of his fly caught fish below.

Steve Bewes was met with a snow flurry and biting winds when he arrived at a local river but persisted despite the inclement weather and was rewarded with the fine 15lb 7oz specimen pictured below.

It just goes to show that he who dares wins! well done guys and well deserved!

Product feature Sybai Saltwater Flash Hair

The market for fly tying materials is pretty congested and to be honest there is not much that is truly new, however Czech company Sybai have found themselves a little niche with their range of very different materials. I first came across Sybai a few years ago and was immediately intrigued by their unusual range. I instantly struck up a relationship with them and became a Pro tier helping to promote their range across the internet.

Not only is their range quite unique, the quality of the materials is outstanding. From their synthetic hairs to dubbings to extremely good 3d eyes, in my view everything is perfect.

One material that I am particularly impressed with is their Saltwater flash hair. Despite the tag of 'Saltwater' the hair is very versatile and an be used not only for Saltwater patterns but Pike and other predator flies.

The hair consists of hundreds of very fine and soft filaments blended with angel hair. The softness of the material makes for great movement in the water and the material sheds water very well.

Saltwater Flash hair comes in a good variety of colours and we have a wide range stocked in the shop

Being primarily a Saltwater fly angler myself I have experimented with getting the best from this material for Salty patterns and I have found it ties very well 'EP' style. Check out the pictures below. However I recommend whatever style of fly you tie that you try this unique fibre as it works well for flash tails on Pike flies as well as being useful to blend in with other materials. The limit really is your imagination so have a play around and see what you can come up with!

Begin by tying in a tail section and then adding shorter pieces of hair top and bottom. continue this all the way along to the eye. Have a look on our Your tube channel for full video instructions to tie an EP style fly.

Once finished spread the fly out and start trimming

Once trimmed the material makes a great looking fly.
